The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has released new guidelines aimed at bringing uniformity and minimizing disputes in the field efficiency tests of hydropower plants and pumped hydro storage projects.
The guidelines define the role of testing agencies, standards to be followed, and the parameters to be measured. Applicable to projects above 5 Megawatts (MW), the norms emphasize adherence to relevant IEC/IS standards during field efficiency acceptance tests.
The purchaser is responsible for specifying parameters for field efficiency guarantees, including water quality, temperature, hydraulic energy, and machine conditions. Experienced third-party agencies are preferred for conducting the tests, while formulas and modalities for assessing efficiency are detailed to ensure consistency across hydro projects.
